Last Friday I attended the latest public meeting of the West Finglas Tenants and Residents Association regarding the Abigail centre. The City Council are on record that this site is not an appropriate location for these services. The community, local councillors and local council staff have developed a plan which they believe will see better use of this land.
That plan is still many years off being delivered and in the mean time Finglas has endured 3 years of problems associated with the Abigail centre. From the beginning I said it was the wrong site, the wrong size and had the wrong transport links for a hostel and prisoner out reach service.
With the backing of the community, the Abigail Committee of WFTRA came back to us on Friday and said they were now serving notice on DCC that the service must be relocated by October 2017.
I believe this is a generous timeline and allows the council ample opportunity to relocate the service which is needed.
I think it is important for all of us to back WFTRA and send a strong signal to the Chief Executive of Dublin City Council.
